Shiatsu with Daniela
Body-Mind Therapy from Japan
Because we know it takes more than just a holiday to get rid of stress, we are happy to have a professional and experienced Shiatsu therapist always on hand at the Quinta to help you relax and get the most out of your stay.
Shiatsu is a safe and gentle therapy that usually makes you feel deeply relaxed, calm and revitalized. It's an oriental therapy of physical and energy rebalance acting through pressure with thumbs, fingers, elbows, knees and palms applied to specific areas and points of the human body, correcting internal dysfunctions, promoting good health and treating various illnesses, such as:
|- Back pain
||- Arthritis pain
|| - Constipation
||- Recovery from injuries
|- Premenstrual syndrome
||- Neck and shoulder pain
|- Anxiety / Depression
||- Poor digestion
Shiatsu is based on the principles of oriental medicine where health is a question of the balance of diverse existing forces in the human body. It is not about eliminating the illness in a direct "attack", but in normalizing the vital energy of the patient, thus creating a condition where the body itself can fight the disease through its own immune system. It is a "positive" rather than "static" medicine, promoting balanced, good health rather than reacting to a unique illness
"Vital energy", called "KI" in the East, is the basic life force of all livings beings, including man. KI energy flows in the human body in a regular way, forming channels that are called "meridians" of energy, and it is the understanding and treatment of these that is at the heart of all oriental medicine.
The free movement of this energy throughout our bodies is essential for physical, intellectual and emotional health.
However, there are always disturbances in this freedom of movement for one reason or another, which either accumulate or deplete KI in certain parts of the body, and it is these accumulations or deficits that weaken our natural defences allowing illnesses to take hold. By smoothing out these anomalies Shiatsu is able to allow our immune systems to fight various illnesses from within, with less recourse being necessary to invasive techniques, either chemical or physical.
As well as alleviating pain and helping the body heal itself, another of Shiatsu's great benefits is in teaching the patient to become conscientious of their own "body", and this "body" is not just the physical body, but the holistic body, including the mind, emotions and feelings, all of which have an effect on our emotional state.
